Training in the proper selection and use of a portable fire extinguisher can make the difference between a small fire that was extinguished or a devastating disaster. Portable Fire Extinguisher Training WorkshopThe workshop introduces basic fire chemistry as it applies to fire extinguishment; how to select and properly use a portable fire extinguisher; fire extinguisher operation; different types of fire; when to fight a small fire and how to confine a fire to prevent it from spreading.
Upon completion of the workshop participants will be able to: - Identify the components of the fire triangle and the principles of fire extinguishment
- Identify the components and operating principles of a portable fire extinguisher
- Classify the types of fire and select a portable fire extinguisher rated for this type of fire
- Know how to operate a fire extinguisher, when it is safe to fight a fire and some of the maintenance requirements for portable fire extinguishers
- Extinguish a small live training fire (live fire training workshop)
All persons with responsibilities in a fire safety plan are required by the Fire Code to have portable fire extinguisher training. Portable Fire Extinguisher Selection & Use: The training workshop is approximately 1/2 hour including the written test. (live fire training workshop will be 1 to 1 1/2 hours depending on the number of attendees.
Each portable fire extinguisher training workshop includes:
- DLP Data Projector and sound system
- Classroom multi-media presentation with a question period
- Fire extinguisher knowledge test comprised of 12 questions
- Carbon dioxide portable fire extinguishers (live fire training workshop)
- Equipment for live fire training (live fire training workshop)
- For each participant
- N.F.P.A. “Fire Extinguishers At Work” or similar pamphlet
- Certificate of Achievement, Laminated Dated Certificate of Achievement Wallet Card - Fire Extinguisher Training
Requirements For Fire Extinguisher Training - Training classroom or area of appropriate size
- Typed list of attendees on completion of the training
- Letter of permission to use the property for training (live fire training workshop)
- Outside training area like a parking lot, with room to ignite and extinguish a small training fire. (live fire training workshop)
